The urgent need for the own civilian fleet was emphasized at SPIEF
Participants of the discussion “The World Ocean and Global Transformations: What kind of fleet does Russia and the world need?” held on June 16 at the SPIEF noted the urgent need to build a domestic civilian fleet, including in the fishing industry.
According to Igor Levitin, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, civil shipbuilding in our country "has always been secondary."
We were not engaged in civil shipbuilding. Now we need to turn to this. If we don't do this, we will continue to lose.
This position was supported by State Duma deputy Vyacheslav Fetisov, noting that today Russia has the opportunity to create a serious industry in order to ensure its security in all directions.
Having missed the moment of building our vessels, today we are in a difficult situation.
Aleksey Rakhmanov, General Director of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, outlined technological sovereignty as goal of shipbuilding.
Today we no longer need to rely on our partners. It is quite obvious that we most likely will not have to rely on this strategically.
During the discussion, fishing was identified as an industry where food security and shipbuilding issues converge. It was noted that the renewal of the fleet here is a strategic task.
According to the head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries, Ilya Shestakov, the fishing industry today provides about a third of orders in the field of civil shipbuilding due to the effectiveness of non-financial incentives.
The construction of such a number of fishing vessels became possible because we began to stimulate it by allocating quotas.
Mr. Shestakov emphasized the technological advantages of the new fishing fleet and said that the first new vessels are showing good results in the fishery: “The six vessels that have already been built and handed over to the customer are working perfectly.”
Fishing vessels are trawlers that can process 100% of the catch directly on board, which operate under ECO-S certification, these are technologies that are not currently available in the world.
