Market participants discussed the strategic partnership between Russia and Brazil in the fish trade.
At an online meeting on April 29 dedicated to the strategic partnership between Russia and Brazil in fishery trade, industry organizations from both countries and Russian exporters, including members of the Fishery Shipowners Association (FSA), presented opportunities for expanding cooperation.
Amid restrictions in certain foreign markets, Brazil is becoming a growing destination for Russian fish exports. New producers are regularly receiving export rights there, with the number currently exceeding 60.
As FSA Vice President Alexey Osintsev noted, the Brazilian market is of interest both for Russian frozen fish and for highly processed fish products. Specifically, for pollock fillets and surimi, as well as cod clipfish, the production of which is organized in Murmansk.
Alexey Osintsev emphasized that the development of exports of certain types of Russian fish products to Brazil is currently hampered by high import duties. Specifically, for pollock and salmon fillets, the tariff is 10%, and for canned fish, 16%. At the same time, a preferential zero tariff applies to a number of countries (Mercosur members, Chile).
A solution to this situation could be separate temporary trade agreements at the national level, as well as the development of duty-free imports of fish products for government needs.
