Russia and Norway agreed on quotas in 2024
Russia and Norway at the regular 53rd session of the Joint Russian-Norwegian Fisheries Commission (JRNFC, a member of the Council of the Fishery Shipowners Association (FSA) Sergei Sennikov worked in the Russian delegation) agreed on the total allowable catches and national quotas for jointly managed stocks for 2024 , and also determined a plan for joint scientific research for the next year.
The total allowable catch of cod distributed in the area under the management of the JRNFC in 2024 is reduced by 20% compared to the current year. The Russian cod quota for industrial and coastal fisheries will be 193.124 thousand tons.
At the same time, the volume of capelin catch has significantly increased. The Russian quota has increased more than 3 times compared to the current year - to 78.2 thousand tons.
Capelin is in good demand among our consumers and processors, but such an increase will be a challenge for Russian fishermen due to the short capelin fishing season. The fish quickly moves into the Norwegian zone. The result depends on the optimal deployment of the fleet in the field.
In addition, Russia's quota for haddock amounted to 57,605 tons (a decrease in the total TAC by 17%), blue halibut - 8,888 tons, beaked perch - 14,630 tons (including 2,000 tons transferred by Norway). The moratorium on catching golden perch in 2024 has been extended.
